Abel was founded in Amsterdam in 2013 by Frances Shoemack, a former winemaker who couldn't find a natural perfume that felt modern, sophisticated and long-lasting. She set out to make one herself, working with Master Perfumer Isaac Sinclair to prove that natural fragrance could stand alongside the best in the world. Today, Abel creates contemporary perfumes from 100% natural ingredients, using master perfumery, biotechnology and thoughtful materials to push fragrance forward without relying on petrochemicals. Born in Amsterdam and now based in Wellington, Abel remains independent, curious and committed to doing things differently.

A grown-up vanilla was not an obvious choice for Abel. Frances Shoemack and Master Perfumer Isaac Sinclair had never made one before, so they pushed the scent toward toasted black sesame, tahini and a savory edge instead of making something simply sweet.
